Programme Overview

What is a Typical Night?

The season runs from September through to May, and we also have a summer programme of activities during our off-season for those that want to take part. Although no evening is the same, there is a general format that we follow:

  • We meet from 7:45pm for a prompt 8:00pm start

  • To start our chairman will give brief reminders, evening overview and then introduce our judge or lecturer for competition and lecture evenings.

  • You only need to bring your cameras on workshop and studio nights

  • We break around 9 pm for a tea/coffee and cake, before finishing up around 10 pm

  • All members help clear the hall at the end of the evening

The programme is split into lectures, competitions, studio nights and club nights.

Lectures:

During club lectures we invite professional and amateur photographers, along with a selection of their images, to discuss their inspirations, challenges, camera settings and what they were trying to achieve from the photo. Talking us through the journey they have been on to success. These nights are generally very thought provoking, with our members continuing the discussions into the week that follows on social media and through face to face discussions.

Competitions:

Once a month we run an internal competition where members are invited to submit up to three images for review. This is a great way to receive constructive feedback on your images to develop your photography passion further.

Studio Nights:

During our studio nights we make use of the clubs fully equipped studio lighting and backdrops. These sessions give our members the opportunity to build their confidence and rapport of positioning models in a studio set up whilst gaining an understanding of how lighting can help you to achieve the image you desire.

Club Nights:

The club nights cover a variety of topics and draw upon the vast experience of our members to give the club an insight in an area they are particularly knowledgeable on. This could be subjects such as lighting, focus-stacking, composite images and many more. We also run editing workshops where members share post-processing tips and review multiple edits of the same image. These sessions are aimed to get our members to try new techniques and styles by expanding their understanding of the topic in an interactive and engaging session.
